• Students are encouraged to engage with the fundamental British values of democracy via Student Voice on key decisions.  Students are encouraged to voice their views in lessons, in discussions and giving feedback to teachers in a formalised and respectful way.  Students are encouraged to join the Debate Club and are given the opportunity to attend and voice lectures within the Breezehill Auditorium. 
• Form tutors are provided with a weekly bulletin  'Hatton News' to share with students in form time.  This bulletin provides a focus for 'Thought of the Week' alongside linking themes/events.  Additionally Hatton News contains information regarding extra curricular and community based events / topics that students may wish to take part in.  There is also a topical news focus including local, national and global focussed current affairs.

• In school we promote the importance of the rule of law through such things as our Behaviour for Learning Policy, which sets clear boundaries and expectations.  The use of the school behaviour policy gives students the opportunity to change their behaviour and we use restorative justice and mediation to support students to change individual behaviours. 
• Within Lifeskills students cover topics such as the theme of rights and responsibilities.

• The Academy offers an increase in liberty to students as they move up through the years, for example VI Formers are allowed to leave the site at certain times of the academy day.
• Elements of choice provided in Hatton Diner within healthy guidelines.  This choice extends to all dietary needs.
• A wide range of extra-curricular, trips, clubs and experiences are offered to students across all year groups. 

• As a multi-cultural academy with a highly diverse demographic mutual respect at Hatton is defined as 'the proper regard for an individual's dignity which is reciprocated and respected'.  
• Clear guidance and high expectations of behaviour.  Students are expected to follow the academy's values and be 'Ready for Excellence'.
• We value and promote our students to be 'Up-Standers not By-Standers'.  Individuals and teams are awarded Special Recognition Awards for going above and beyond excellence.

• The Academy actively promotes tolerance of and respect for people of all faiths (or those of no faith), cultures and lifestyles through the effective Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of students. 
• Religious Education is taught to all students across KS3 and KS4.  
• A private reflection space is provided onsite suitable for prayer, meditation and reflection.  

 All of these activities, lessons and more are included to enable the students to develop and demonstrate skills that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern, democratic Britain; prepare them for life beyond school, and ready them to be the global citizens of tomorrow.
